About

About Dr. Shaun Matthews

Welcome to Ayurvedic Healing! This is the website for Dr. Shaun Matthews. I am a medical doctor, Ayurveda and Yoga therapist based in Sydney, Australia. Ayurveda, the traditional system of healing that has arisen in the Indian subcontinent over the past 6,000 years, is my enduring passion.

In 1987 I worked as a doctor in India with Tibetan refugees and had my first exposure to Tibetan medicine, which has many similarities with Ayurveda. Dissatisfied with elements of my training in western medicine, I returned to India in 1992 and studied Ayurveda at Gujarat Ayurveda University and a few years later undertook Yoga teacher training at the Bihar School of Yoga. I have been active in teaching Ayurveda, Yoga and meditation around Australia over the last twenty years, both of which I use extensively in my clinical practice.

I was on the organising committee of the international Ayurveda and Yoga conferences held in Sydney in 2006 and 2009 and am a Fellow of the Institute of Indian Medicine(Ayurveda) in Pune, India.
I have also done extensive training in various complementary medicine therapies including somatic or body-oriented psychotherapy, massage, iridology, Reiki, and reflexology which I use to inform my work with patients.
